Importing media

NEW in V1.6 - important changes!

Since version 1.6 you can simply use the create button in the launcher to create new presentations. The automatically opening Input folder behaves exactly like older versions of the VR-Suite. The folder “data” was replaced in V 1.6 by a folder named with your clientID.

When talking about the folder “data” in this manual, the folder “data_mypresentation” in your clientID folder *xxx-xxx* is always meant.

First import of 360-degree locations and multimedia

  • The folder “Input” contains new 360-degree locations
  • Since version 1.6 you find the folder “Input” under “data_mypresentation” in your clientID folder xxx-xxx. See also New Launcher and File Structure.

Creating a new VR-Presentation using the VR-Suite is generally a very simple task. Get the concept much easier by taking some time to watch our tutorial videos.

Creating the import folder structure for the presentation in Windows

  1. Go to the folder data/Input inside of the VR-Suite folder.

  2. Copy your 360° photos and 360°-videos into the folder data/Input. Use typical 360°-images or already prepared cubefaces.

  3. How to prepare slideshow content for 360° locations

    • Create a new subfolder in the “data/input” folder
    • Rename that folder exactly matching the filename of the 360°-location (omit any filetype extension).
    • Add any .mp3 audio files or subfolders containing slideshow content (photos and videos) into this location-folder.

During the startup of the VR-Suite, names of all locations and slideshows will be processed and all 360°-locations are already interlinked by default HotSpots.Start immediately to immerse into your VR tour.

Add particular sounds or slideshow-folders later directly in the 360°-location (1_x Ordner) The processing starts when you trigger the Sync Media button in the iMenu

Start VR-Suite to import data

  1. Launch the VR-Suite.
  2. You are now automatically in the first panorama location.
  3. You should see your multimedia content as slideshow symbols, if you have created some for this 360-degree scene.

Automated import in case of an empty project

During the first launch, the folder “Input” will be automatically searched for new content and all files will be imported. In that process, folders with the name 1_1, 1_2 etc. will be created in the folder “data”. The files will be sorted into the new folders and renamed to counter operating system related issues. The import will be only executed, if there are no media and no media.xml existent. There should be no 1_X folders in “data” and no media.xml file. If you want to import new media to an existing walk through, open the editor mode and click on the button Sync Media.

In case you get the error message “An error occurred”, it normally is connected to your write permissions. Launch the application as administrator. (–> right click onto the application “launch as administrator”)

The filenames will be carried over during the import. It saves a lot of work, if you already use the correct names in windows.

For advanced users: import order

Order during import

If you add a number with two underscores to the front of the filename in the folder “Input”, you can control the order of the import of the media. The numbers and underscores will not be shown later.

2__Empfang (Ordner der Slideshow Ordner enthält)

Add further 360-degree locations and multimedia content

To get to the folder structure of your presentation faster under Windows, simply click on the folder symbol on the left side of the locations in edit mode.

Option 1: Folder “Input”

  • The advantage of this way is, that the filenames and folder names are carried over from Windows.
  • Put further 360-degree scenes (images or video) or folders of the format 1_X into the folder “Input”.
  • All content will be automatically sorted into the folder “data” and numbered in ascending order.
  • Attention: This can lead to renaming of folders like 1_6 to 1_7 in case of the folder 1_6 already existing.

Option 2: Folder “data”

  • Create a folder with the name 1_x in the folder data. You need to obey the correct numbering scheme. (File names will not be carried over)
  • Copy a new slideshow folder directly into a location (for example 1_1). (File names will not be carried over)
  • After adding data select the Sync Media button in the upper right corner of the iMenu during edit mode.

For advanced users: large projects

If you want to manage several projects more clearly, you can give each site a numbering by the hundreds. This can be helpful if you want to use the numeric keys for fast navigation.

  • Start Image 1_1
  • Company site 1 from folder 1_1xx
  • Company site 2 from folder 1_2xx
  • etc.
  1. create a folder 1_200 in the data folder before importing Site 2 as a trick to make the importer move all your data in the folder “Input” into the consecutive folders from 1_201.
  2. After selecting Sync Media delete the folder 1_200 in Windows and select again Sync Media.

After adding data select the Sync Media button in the upper right corner of the iMenu during edit mode.

Synchronize - Sync Media

  1. Start the edit modus: Start and stop Edit-mode
  2. Open the iMenu: Open the iMenu
  3. Click in the button Sync Media
  • The files will be partly renamed. Special characters will be removed to ensure compatibility with the GearVR or Cardboard.
  • All existing locations will be analysed again, and complemented by newly added slideshows.
  • The content of the slideshows will be processed during run time when you open the slideshow. Therefore you can update the content of the slideshow folder any time without using “Sync Media”.

Not existing locations (1_x folders) or slideshow folders will be removed from the projects. Make sure that the file structure in the folder “data” is always valid.

Removing 360-degree scenes

  • Delete the corresponding 1_x folder from the “data” folder.
  • After the deletion, select the Sync Media button in the upper right corner of the iMenu during edit mode.
  • The folders will be completely removed from the presentation.

Removing multimedia content

  • Delete the corresponding multimedia folder from the folder „1_x“.
  • After the deletion, select the Sync Media button in the upper right corner of the iMenu during edit mode.
  • The slideshow will now be completely removed from the presentation.

If you select the folder name left of the location name in edit mode, the corresponding folder will be opened in Windows.
